"Government class is such a vital subject to learn as an American, so I've been excited to be given the opportunity to teach Freshman all about it. We’ve covered the creation of the government and the documents which developed our governments foundations. They have learned about the rights every American citizen has and how each right came to be established. They did a dive into political parties and how they have changed throughout history. We just finished a unit about the role of the President and with the election upon us, I decided to try to make voting as real to the students as I could. I had them research a few things from the ballot. I then set up a ‘voting’ area in the library on Tuesday. The students went through the same process as adults to vote. They stood in line, showed their student ID, grabbed a ballot, voted in a voting booth, submitted their ballot in a box, and received an ‘I Voted’ sticker. To finish the semester we will look at how different types of governments function, see how the media is considered the fourth branch of government, and take a fun look at some conspiracy theories related to the government." Mrs. Jordan
