8th graders in Mrs. Goodwin’s ELA classes participated in their first Socratic Seminars this week. A Socratic Seminar is a structured student-led discussion that dives deeper in to analyzing text - in this case The Diary of Anne Frank - and collaborating with peers to actively engage in dialogue.
One class also benefitted from the knowledge shared by a high school intern regarding the practice of Socratic Seminars in high school and college level courses. Our intern shared with students how practicing Socratic Seminars now will help prepare them for high school and beyond.

Mrs. Fortino's Health and Wellness class sat together in a circle and passed a ball from person to person, focusing on the importance of communication, teamwork, and trust. As the ball moved around the circle, they talked about how every individual plays a vital role in keeping our “community chain” strong.
Activities like this help us build stronger relationships, practice active listening, and recognize how each one of us contributes to a positive classroom environment.
